My name is Marscia Luissa Martinez-Mendoza and I'm a mixed-media artist whose work explores themes of memory and identity. While specializing in realism my art consists of what I feel in the moment or anything that I find interesting. This can range from serious political and interpersonal themes commenting on my upbringing as as a first generation Mexican born immigrant in the United states to whimsical and light art that simply pleases my sense of aesthetic.Â
Art has been an escape for me since the age of 5 after arriving in the united states to a hostile country where I couldn't speak or understand the language. My earliest form of a diary has been my art which I present here reluctantly as a way of screaming into the void in a more peaceful way than I have in the past. While art was just a way for me to create "pretty things" My life experience has creating pieces that are both tactile and deeply personal. With a background in textile design, Sarah Chen brings a unique perspective to contemporary art."
